Dr. Sal Carbonaro

Dr. Salvatore Carbonaro, Jr., PhD, provides counseling to children, adolescents, and adults. He also administers psychological testing to these populations as well. He completed his doctorate in psychology with Fielding Graduate University. He completed his clinical training and postdoctoral fellowship with The Guidance Center in Leavenworth, KS, which is a community mental health facility. Other clinical training occurred with the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, which focused on providing psychological testing and group therapy to individuals with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). His graduate clinical work focused on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and he has implemented intervention practices to help clients heal from past trauma.

Sal is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served between 1999 and 2004. After his service in the military, he worked as a licensed prevention specialist within Aldine ISD, where he taught life skills lessons designed to inform middle school students about the dangers of substance use. He has provided individual and group therapy to children, and adolescents within private practice settings, and within juvenile detention centers (JDC). He has also provided group therapy to women and their children living within women’s only housing centers in Houston, and utilized the Strengthening Families program as a method of therapeutic intervention. Additionally, Sal has provided individual and group therapy to men and women within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) system. Sal currently holds a license as a chemical dependency counselor in the state of Texas, and is in the process of becoming a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas. He is in-network with BlueCross BlueShield.

The father of two children (daughter – 12, and son – 10), Sal enjoys spending quality time with his children and family. He encourages them to pursue their personal goals and dreams in their journey through life. In his spare time, Sal enjoys oil painting, reading/writing, watching sports, and going to the gym.
