Melissa James, Pre-doctoral Intern

Melissa is a Pre-doctoral Intern, under the supervision of Dr. Charles Hallmark, PhD and Dr. Gracie Reyes-McDonald, PhD. Melissa holds a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a Master’s of Science in Psychology with a concentration in child and adolescent development. She is CISM trained, FBI Resiliency Trained, EMDR Trained, CCTP Trained, CATP Trained, and Telemedicine Certified.

Melissa has obtained an array of experience from working in a private practice setting, hospital setting, and collaborating with non-profit organizations. Melissa specializes in treating all ages for issues including Anxiety & Depression, Family & Blended Family counseling, First Responder & Veteran counseling, Trauma and Self-Harm, Child & Adolescent Issues, and Substance Use. Melissa has a heart for working with individuals, families, children, and teens. She counsels from a person-centered, cognitive-behavioral approach. She believes individuals already possess the qualities they need to flourish and take approach by encouraging curiosity, creativity, empathy, and intuition. She also believes that a person’s thoughts and behaviors dictate their feelings in a given situation and by combining both cognitive and behavioral approaches, new adaptive learning experiences can be used to substitute prior maladaptive learning processes.

When Melissa is not serving our community, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and working on a doctoral degree in clinical psychology. She values her faith and incorporates fun into every element of her life.

Melissa sees Aetna and Cigna clients in-network and is also accepting private pay clients.
