Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Services in The Woodlands & Spring

Various conditions may lead to attention problems and/or an increased activity level in children, adolescents, and adults. Most often lumped together as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), these conditions can make every day a challenge for many people. From sitting in a classroom to sitting in a boardroom, the ability to harness your energy for productive uses and pay attention to what’s going on around you is essential. At Grace Psychological Services, our skilled clinicians offer services to diagnose ADHD and help people address the struggles that may come with an ADHD diagnosis.

Do I Need Help with ADHD?

Everyone is distracted or has a little extra energy from time to time – especially kids! That’s completely natural, but those who struggle with ADHD experience severe attention disorder that can cause a number of difficulties at home, school, work, and during social interactions. Some of the most common signs that ADHD diagnosis and treatment may be necessary include persistent, chronic, and/or excessive:

  • Daydreaming
  • Forgetfulness
  • Losing track of items
  • Squirming or fidgeting
  • Talking
  • Making mistakes due to inability to pay attention to details
  • Taking unnecessary risks due to lack of foresight
  • Difficulty resisting temptations
  • Trouble sharing or taking turns
  • Difficulty communicating clearly and getting along with others

What Happens During ADHD Testing?

There’s no specific test for ADHD. Instead, one of our skilled psychologists will work with parents and kids to review a wide range of symptoms. This may include analyzing historical concerns with inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity. Specific testing may include asking people to perform tasks or remember information while being confronted with outside influences or distractions. A counselor may also want to observe the person with ADHD in a typical setting. The goal is to determine whether or not your child is truly suffering from a neurodevelopmental disorder that leads to ADHD.

What Happens After Diagnosis?

Once a diagnosis of ADHD is given, the person struggling with this condition and/or their parents will need to consider a number of intervention techniques. Typically, this includes behavioral therapy for kids and adolescents, parenting technique training, establishing educational resources as necessary, and in some cases, we may also recommend medications to decrease the side effects of ADHD.
