We make cognitive testing a comfortable process.

Cognitive testing, often referred to simply as IQ testing is also available from the team at Grace Psychological Services. We are happy to offer cognitive testing for children, teens, and adults. We utilize proven testing methods that offer clear and accurate results. Whether you need IQ testing for the purposes of private school admissions, your child’s school Gifted & Talented program, or you would just like to know what your own or your child’s cognitive abilities are, we ensure that the process is a comfortable one. That means anyone can do their very best on testing day.

Who Needs Cognitive Testing?

IQ or Intelligence Quotient is a theoretical construct used by psychologists to describe the intelligence of individuals. Typically, testing results are given in numeric form. More than 95% of IQ scores fall between 70 and 130. Those whose IQ falls above or below these numbers are considered atypical. Some of the reasons people seek IQ testing, include:

Curiosity – some people just want to know what their own or their loved ones’ intellectual capabilities are
School admittance – some private schools require IQ testing as part of their admissions process
Qualifications – school Gifted and Talented programs and programs for adults like MENSA require participants to achieve a certain baseline IQ score in order to gain admittance
Special education – some schools require basic IQ testing as part of assessment to determine whether or not a child should receive special education resources

How is IQ Testing Conducted?

There are a number of standardized and researched cognitive assessment tools that we may utilize. Each test will include questions to assess verbal and performance abilities, including:

Verbal comprehension – the ability to use language to understand and express concepts
Visual spatial reasoning – the ability to recognize visual clues and understand special relationships
Reasoning skills – the ability to apply conceptual knowledge to specific events
Working memory – the ability to learn and remember the necessary information to perform specific tasks
Processing speed – the ability to quickly understand and respond to the information presented
